Broad Avenue is the reason most people know Palisades Park, and it is where a good share of our work originates. The commercial stretch stays busy from morning through late evening, the curb lane is in constant use for deliveries and double-parking, and drivers spend more time creeping than moving. Slow traffic is not usually what breaks glass. Route 46 along the northern side feeding the bridge approach is a different story, and that is the road most of the serious damage comes off.
So the calls from this borough split neatly. Half are chips picked up on a highway run, small enough to fill in half an hour for $60 to $150 and often covered outright by comprehensive. The other half are windows: a smashed door glass, a quarter light, a rear pane that took a shopping cart in a lot. Those land around $200 to $450 for most tempered side and rear glass with the cleanup included, because tempered glass does not break politely and the pieces end up everywhere in the door skin and under the seat. Either way you hear the number first.
The borough is a compact grid of short blocks, which makes it easy to drive and hard to park in. Broad Avenue is the spine and the heart of a large Korean-American business district, with Grand Avenue and East Central Boulevard carrying the rest of the through traffic. Two patterns, both easy to trace. The highway one comes off Route 46 and the roads feeding the bridge approach, where sand and stone sit on the shoulder and get thrown by whatever is running ahead of you. The local one is closer to home: cart traffic in the small lots, and the sheer density of parked cars on narrow streets, means door glass takes a beating from mirrors, handlebars and delivery dollies. From most of the borough, take Broad Avenue south and then cut east onto the ridge streets. Number 137 Palisade Avenue comes up quickly once you are over the top. Figure under ten minutes in normal conditions, longer if you attempt it while the avenue is loading.
